(This message is more directed towared the programmers of LW..
Allen, or anybody else?????)
There has been a recent series of messages about the compatibality of
LightWave 4.0+ running on any of the Windows os's (win32, win95, or
winNT). Are there any plans on porting a version of LW to run on the
OS/2 operating system??? I know that Windows programs will run under OS/2,
but with the overhead of Windows.
OS/2 has several features that may allow LW to preform very well, and
retain some of the features that exist on the Amiga side.
OS/2 has the ability of running multi-tasking, multi-threaded 32 bit
applications.
One MAJOR plus for using OS/2 is that it has REXX ports, it always has.
>From what I understand of LW4.0 for Windows, there is no
'programmable' macro support (such as REXX). Personally, when using
modeler on the Amiga, I always am using scripts of my own or those that
came with LW. The conversion of Amiga REXX scripts to OS/2 REXX scripts
should be very easy. I have successfully gotten several AREXX scripts
(not LW scripts!) to run on OS/2 with very little modification.
OS/2 can support a multiple processor system. Im not sure what the
limit on this is, but there is a machine in our department that has 3
Pentium processors running OS/2, nice and quick!!
There is an established user base of OS/2, over 10 million copies as of
last count. (granted, not as many as Windows, but still a lot!!)
Anyway, it would be nice to see LW for OS/2 without the major overhead
of Windows...
